Arrival

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Across Tanzania Expeditions and transferred to your hotel in Arusha.

In the evening, you will meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed pre-climb briefing. During this session, you will review the itinerary, conduct a full gear check, and receive important safety and acclimatization guidance to ensure you are fully prepared for your trek on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Enjoy dinner and a restful overnight stay as you get ready for the adventure ahead.

Day 1: Arusha → Lemosho Gate → Big Tree Camp

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your lodge and transferred to Lemosho Gate (2,385 m), located within Kilimanjaro National Park. Upon arrival, you will complete registration formalities with the park authorities before beginning your 7-day Lemosho Route climb.

The trek starts through a dense, untouched rainforest, following a moderately steep trail rich in natural beauty. This pristine environment is home to diverse wildlife, and for your safety, an armed ranger will accompany the group during the first two days.

You will arrive at Big Tree Camp (2,780 m) in the afternoon, where you will settle into your tents, enjoy a warm meal, and rest for the night surrounded by the sounds of the forest.

Overnight: Big Tree Camp

Day 2: Big Tree Camp → Shira Camp 2

Today’s trek leads you from the rainforest into the open moorland of Mount Kilimanjaro, where the landscape becomes drier and more expansive. You will pass Shira Ridge and stop at Shira Camp 1 for lunch, enjoying views of Mount Meru and the Rift Valley.

The trek continues across volcanic terrain with giant senecio plants before reaching Shira Camp 2, where you will enjoy dinner and a beautiful sunset over the mountain.

Overnight: Shira Camp 2
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 3: Shira Camp 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

Today is key for acclimatization on Mount Kilimanjaro. You will trek across the Shira Plateau toward Lava Tower (4,640 m), reaching higher altitude before descending to Barranco Camp (3,960 m).

As you progress, the landscape shifts into alpine desert with sparse vegetation, before entering the scenic Barranco Valley, dotted with lobelia and giant senecio plants.

You will arrive at Barranco Camp, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful camps on the mountain, where you will enjoy dinner and overnight rest.

Overnight: Barranco Camp
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 4: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

This morning, prepare for the ascent of the iconic Barranco Wall. An early start is recommended to maintain a steady pace and stay ahead of other trekkers. While impressive in size, the climb is manageable and typically takes about an hour. Once atop, enjoy a well-earned rest and take in the stunning backdrop of Kibo Volcano, perfect for photos and memories.

From here, continue the trek to Karanga Camp, navigating gentle ascents and descents across the scenic Karanga Valley. The trail may be hilly, but your experienced guides will ensure a pace that suits the group, balancing challenge with comfort.

After arriving at Karanga Camp for a brief rest, embark on an acclimatization hike toward Barafu Camp, gaining approximately 200 m / 656 ft in elevation before returning to Karanga Camp. This extra hike helps your body adjust to the higher altitude, preparing you for the upcoming summit push.

Overnight: Karanga Camp
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 5: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

As the morning sun rises, enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting off for Barafu Camp, the final high-altitude stop and base for your nighttime ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,340 ft)—the ultimate highlight of your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Our dedicated mountain crew will move ahead to ensure your tents are fully set up, allowing you to arrive and relax comfortably. Spend the remaining daylight hours resting, hydrating, and replenishing your energy, preparing both body and mind for the challenging night climb.

Tonight, you’ll sleep beneath the stars, on the very threshold of conquering Africa’s highest peak, ready to begin the exhilarating ascent under the moonlight and early dawn.

Overnight: Barafu Camp
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 6: Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp

After breakfast, you will complete the descent to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your well-deserved summit certificate. At lower elevations, the trail may be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended for comfort. Light clothing such as shorts and t-shirts will be suitable for this part of the trek.

From Mweka Gate, your private vehicle will transfer you back to Arusha, marking the successful conclusion of your unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure.

Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 7: Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Arusha

Your amazing adventure comes to an end with a traditional farewell ceremony by your mountain crew before a gentle descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
