While the final approach to the summit is more demanding due to the altitude, the overall trek remains moderate and manageable. Arrival

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Across Tanzania Expeditions and transferred to your hotel in Arusha.

In the evening, you will meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed pre-climb briefing. During this session, you will review the itinerary, conduct a full gear check, and receive important safety and acclimatization guidance to ensure you are fully prepared for your trek on Mount Kilimanjaro.

Enjoy dinner and a restful overnight stay as you get ready for the adventure ahead.

Day 1: Arusha → Marangu Gate → Mandara Hut

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park, where registration formalities are completed before your trek begins. The trail leads you through a dense rainforest, rich in wildlife, where you may spot black-and-white colobus monkeys moving through the canopy.

After approximately 3–4 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Mandara Hut. Following a short rest, enjoy an optional walk to Maundi Crater, offering scenic views toward Kenya. Dinner and overnight will be at Mandara Hut.

Overnight: Mandara Hut
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 2: Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut

After an early breakfast, you will depart Mandara Hut and continue your ascent on Mount Kilimanjaro. As you climb higher, you will leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone, where vegetation transitions to shrubs and open landscapes.

After approximately 5–6 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Horombo Hut, where you can enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak, Kibo Peak, and the vast Maasai steppe. Dinner and overnight will be at Horombo Hut.

Overnight: Horombo Hut
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 3: Horombo Hut → Zebra Rocks → Horombo Hut

Today is dedicated to acclimatization on Mount Kilimanjaro, an essential step to improve your chances of reaching the summit. After a relaxed breakfast, you will take a short hike to Zebra Rocks, known for their distinctive black and white striped appearance.

You will then return to Horombo Hut for a hot lunch, followed by an afternoon of rest and recovery. Dinner and overnight will be at Horombo Hut, preparing you for the higher altitudes ahead.

Overnight: Horombo Hut
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 4: Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut

Today’s trek is challenging, covering the trail past the “last water point” and across the barren Saddle, the plateau connecting Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The landscape here is stark and almost plantless, highlighting the high-altitude environment of Mount Kilimanjaro.

After approximately 5–6 hours of trekking, you will reach Kibo Hut, your base for the summit push. Tonight, rest early to prepare for the final ascent, with a wake-up call scheduled around 11:00 pm for the climb to Uhuru Peak.

Overnight: Kibo Hut
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 5: Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak → Horombo Hut

Today is the highlight of your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure. You will begin the climb in the middle of the night, walking on frozen volcanic ash for easier footing, and start the long trek toward the summit.

Passing Hans Meyer Cave (5,220 m), the ascent continues steadily until you reach Gilman’s Point (5,681 m) at sunrise on the crater rim. After another 1–2 hours, you will stand triumphantly at Uhuru Peak, the “Roof of Africa”.

The descent follows the same route. With thawed lava ash, it allows for a faster return to Kibo Hut for a warm meal and a short rest. Afterwards, continue descending to Horombo Hut, arriving in the afternoon. Dinner and an early night’s rest follow, completing an unforgettable summit day.

Overnight: Horombo Hut
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 6: Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate → Arusha

After breakfast, your final stage begins with a farewell ceremony from your mountain crew. You will then trek for 2–3 hours through the lush rainforest down to Mweka Gate, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Meru View Lodge.

Once at the lodge, enjoy a hot shower and well-deserved rest, with the remainder of the day free to relax, swim, or celebrate your incredible Kilimanjaro achievement.

Meals: Breakfast | Lunch

A truly memorable experience with Across Tanzania Expeditions. Our 5 days safari with Across Tanzania Expeditions was nothing short of spectacular! Upon arrival in Tanzania, we were greeted by our wonderful guide, Fazo, who quickly made us feel at home. His expertise and enthusiasm for wildlife were infectious. Faoz's ability to spot animals was astounding – he could point out a leopard lounging in a tree from what felt like a mile away! His extensive knowledge about the ecosystems, animal behaviors, and local cultures enriched our experience beyond just the sights. The itinerary was perfectly crafted, allowing us to explore the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. Each park offered unique landscapes and wildlife encounters. They go above and beyond to ensure that your time in Tanzania is as enriching and unforgettable as possible. We will definitely be back for another adventure!

Outstanding tour: well planned and well run. Can’t say enough good things! Our 9 day Safari was outstanding!!! The owner Hezron and his team were very conscientious, helpful, committed to their people having an amazing trip. Hezron contacted me daily when there to make sure all was going well. Hussein does a lot of the planning and booking and did a great job, we loved all of our lodging. Fazo our guide was a walking encyclopedia of all animals we encountered in the 5 National Parks we went to. We saw the Big 5 and more! The vehicle was clean and reliable. Fazo was a very safe and conscious driver with an instinct for where animals would be. The food at all of our lodgings were great. I am celiac and the team at Across Tanzania contacted each place before we got there to make sure they knew what to expect for my dietary needs. The trip was well planned, well run, and thoroughly enjoyable. Would highly recommend a private tour (we saw groups all packed in and they would only get to see out of their window) we had full movement in the 6 seat Land Cruiser to get the photos and views we had been dying to see.
