Day 2: Arusha → Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your Across Tanzania Expeditions guide will pick you up from your accommodation and drive approximately 2.5 hours to Tarangire National Park along good tarmac roads. Named after the Tarangire River—the region’s only water source during the dry season—this park is famous for large elephant herds often seen near the river. Keep an eye out for giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeests, and a variety of predators including lions and leopards. Tarangire also boasts over 550 bird species and majestic ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing to your accommodation in Karatu for dinner and overnight stay.

Accommodation: Eileen's Trees Inn

Day 3: Karatu → Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will drive into the cooler highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with an opportunity to stop and admire the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. Continue through the conservation area as you make your way to the southern part of Serengeti National Park.

The Serengeti is renowned for its endless grasslands, offering excellent wildlife viewing and, depending on the season, a chance to witness the incredible annual migration of wildebeest, zebras, and antelope—a natural phenomenon considered one of the world’s wonders. Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch in the park before settling into your comfortable tented camp in Central Serengeti for the night.

Accommodation: Embalakai Serengeti Camp
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 4: Full-Day Game Drive in Serengeti

Spend a full day exploring the iconic Serengeti National Park on exciting game drives. The park is home to abundant wildlife, including impalas, buffaloes, crocodiles, and hippos, while predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards roam the plains. Its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity make for an unforgettable safari experience.

You can choose to enjoy an early morning and late afternoon game drive, returning to your tented camp for lunch, or opt for a full-day game drive with a scenic picnic lunch in the park, immersing yourself fully in the Serengeti’s natural beauty.

Accommodation: Embalakai Serengeti Camp
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 5: Serengeti National Park → Ngorongoro

After breakfast, depart for the stunning Ngorongoro Crater, enjoying scenic views along the way. Spend the afternoon exploring this unique volcanic caldera, a pristine wilderness of sweeping savannahs, acacia woodlands, glistening lakes, and swamps. Formed 2–3 million years ago when a massive volcano collapsed, the crater offers unparalleled wildlife viewing.

Descend into the crater for game drives among large herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 bird species. With luck, you may even spot the endangered black rhino in the open grasslands. In the late afternoon, drive to your accommodation in Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.

Accommodation: Eileen's Trees Inn
Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park → Arusha / Airport

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, the final stop on your Northern Tanzania safari. Though small, this park is incredibly diverse, with the Great Rift Escarpment towering over its western boundary and a seasonal shallow salt lake attracting thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other species.

Explore the park’s evergreen forests, where you may spot elephants, baboons, and the famous tree-climbing lions. Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch before concluding your safari with a drop-off at your chosen location, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro International Airport, or Arusha Airport. Thank you for traveling with Across Tanzania Expeditions!
