Walking Safaris – Ngorongoro Highlands Trek with Maasai

Journey all day to the Ngorongoro Crater.  You can stay on the Crater rim for the night, or make your way to Nainokanoka Village where the hike begins. You meet your Maasai guide and donkey porters at Nainokanoka Village on the slopes of Olmoti Crater. The hike proceeds to Empakaii Crater (4-6 hrs). At Empakaii, you will have time to explore the rim of the Crater. Camping will be on the Crater rim to minimize the environmental impacts on the Crater floor ecosystem. This day is spent exploring the Empakaii Crater floor. The lake is a primary breeding ground for flamingos, the forest is full of birds, buffalo and hyena inhabit the plains, and there is a good chance of spotting a leopard in the early evening. Camping will again be on the crater rim. You cross the Crater Highlands and arrive at Naiyobi Village. Here you will have an opportunity to visit a Maasai school, a clinic, talk with local elders, and immerse yourself in Maasai Village life. If we are lucky we will find a cultural activity, i.e., a marriage, or circumcision ceremony in progress and will be free to participate. Camping will be in a Yellow Acacia forest on the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment.

You descend down the Rift Valley escarpment to Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano and the home of the Maasai God. We will camp at the base of Lengai and start our 5 hour ascent of the volcano that night at 02:00 a.m. in order to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over the highlands

After our descent, we will go to a permanent campsite on the Ngare Sero River to visit a sacred waterfall famous for its healing properties. After a traditional Maasai meal, we will relax at the camp and continue on to the waterfalls.

CULTURAL TOURS

Hunting & Gathering

BUSHMEN: There are people who live in the forest near Lake Eyasi called “Bushmen”, and they live like ancient men depending on gathering fruits, hunting animals, and live in caves or the forest. They do not wear clothing. The cultural tourism visit to this area will enable you to visit them. Natural walking is taking place around the area. The tour takes two/three nights and there are five campsites which can offer accommodation.

MTO WA MBU: Situated adjacent to Lake Manyara National Park.  Here is the only point in Africa where four languages meet; the Nilotes, Cush*tes, Bantu, and Hamites; a unique cultural feature in the World.  This is a point in Tanzania where anthropology is most diverse. A visit to Maasai boma, dancing, market, schools, and community project will be offered. A Maasai village visit to foster the true experience of the most complex cultural experience in Africa is a gift, and will be hard to forget for the rest of your life. Hike the rift valley wall and view Lake Manyara.

HOT AIR BALOON SAFARIS

A Serengeti hot-air balloon safari is probably one of the most beautiful balloon flights in the world and an ultimate safari experience. It is an exclusive excursion over the Serengeti plains, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the awe-inspiring landscape.  At dawn you take off, rising as the sun rises and floating in whichever direction the winds of the morning take you. Your pilot cannot precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, each time offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below.

The Serengeti plains and woodlands are world famous for the variety and sheer number of its animal population. A Serengeti Balloon Safari however, is not merely a game viewing experience, but rather an opportunity for an adventure and unique perspective over outstanding quintessentially African landscapes.

ZANZIBAR TOURS

Stone Town is the cultural heart of Zanzibar and little has changed in the last 200 years. The narrow streets and winding alleyways are lined with grand houses as the original Arab owners vied with each other for the most extravagant home. Over 500 examples of handiwork are reflected in the brass-studded, carved wooden doors.

We offer a number of excursions which are geared to the satisfaction of individual tourists, but if these do not meet your expectations, we will tailor an excursion just for you.
